ProAcogida

ProAcogida is a non-profit organization based in Chile. Founded in 2018, it is a small organization with a team of four employees. The organization is dedicated to promoting family-based care as a primary alternative within the child protection system in Chile. They strive to ensure all children, teenagers, and adolescents in the country who have experienced violations of their rights and require alternative care can grow up within a safe, secure, and nurturing family environment. ProAcogida achieves this by gathering information from both national and international experts to propose improvements to child protection policies. They also focus on training professionals involved in the system and providing substance to their proposals and advocacy efforts. Through collaboration and dialogue with various stakeholders, they have successfully implemented significant improvements to existing processes. ProAcogida advocates for a new approach to family reunification or reintegration, aiming to guide government, social, and judicial actors in making informed decisions that prioritize the well-being of children and teenagers whose rights have been severely compromised. Their work focuses on children and teenagers who have experienced adversity and whose need for love, stability, and secure attachments has been threatened, ultimately striving to uphold their fundamental right to live within a family.
