PENRICKTON CENTER FOR BLIND CHILDREN

Penrickton Center for Blind Children is a non-profit organization located in Taylor, Michigan. The center employs 19 people and generates $8 million in annual revenue. Penrickton Center provides residential and daycare services to children who are visually impaired and multi-disabled, ages 1-12, from across the United States. The center offers a range of services, including evaluation/consultation, occupational therapy, social work, music therapy, developmental programming, nursing, and dance and movement therapy. Founded in 1952, Penrickton Center is nationally recognized as the leader and proponent of Dr. Lilli Nielsen’s concept of “Active Learning.” Their staff is authorized by Dr. Nielsen to provide in-service training and seminars. The center's facility features themed residential rooms decorated with murals painted by volunteers, a playground with safety turf, and occasional visits from horses or petting farms.
