Pacific Heart Lung Blood Institute

The Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute (PHLBI) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit research institution based in Los Angeles, California. Established in 2002, PHLBI is a small organization with a team of three employees. PHLBI is dedicated to advancing medical research focused on rare cancers, including those of the heart, lung, and blood. Their primary focus is developing next-generation cellular immunotherapies for cancer. These immunotherapies have the potential to lead to new treatments for a variety of malignancies, such as mesothelioma, lung, brain, prostate, breast, and skin cancers. The institute operates the Pacific Mesothelioma Center (PMC), a division established in 2012. PMC is internationally recognized for its research and clinical guidelines promoting lung-sparing therapies for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). PMC supports the only in-house lab in the nation dedicated to mesothelioma research.
