Our Kids Read

Our Kids Read is a non-profit organization based in Laurel, Maryland. The organization is small, with a team of three employees. Our Kids Read is dedicated to increasing representation in children's literature by promoting books featuring African-American, Asian, Hispanic, and Native-American/Indigenous characters. They achieve this through three programs: Diverse Books-in-Homes, Diverse Books-in-Schools, and Reading Buddies. The Diverse Books-in-Homes program involves directly donating books featuring characters of color to children enrolled in their program. The Diverse Books-in-Schools program focuses on donating diverse books to public schools across the United States. Finally, the Reading Buddies program connects volunteers with partner schools to read diverse books to children remotely via Zoom after school hours.
