Operation Jump Start

Operation Jump Start (OJS) is a nonprofit organization based in Long Beach, California. With 29 employees, OJS has a mission to empower low-income, high-achieving first-generation students to successfully navigate the path to a four-year college degree. OJS provides comprehensive support to youth starting in 8th grade through their undergraduate studies. Their flagship program, the College Access Program, offers individual mentoring, educational case management, and developmentally-based workshops, guiding students through 10th grade. The College Success program extends this support to high school upperclassmen and college students, addressing college transitions, applications, and readiness skills. OJS also provides individualized case management, financial, educational, and emotional support throughout their college journey until graduation. OJS's programs have demonstrably positive impacts. They report a 100% high school graduation rate for their participants, with students receiving over 1,500 hours of one-on-one mentoring. OJS's support has led to a 90% college enrollment rate immediately following high school graduation and an 85% four-year degree completion rate within six years.
