Northern Moraine WRD

Northern Moraine WRD is a regional wastewater treatment agency based in Island Lake, Illinois. The District is a separate governmental agency, overseen by a five-member board of trustees appointed by the Illinois General Assembly. With a small team of eight full-time employees, Northern Moraine WRD serves three communities: Island Lake, Port Barrington, and Lakemoor. Northern Moraine WRD provides wastewater collection and treatment services to the communities it serves. Their treatment plant, operational since 1978, can process an average of 2 million gallons of wastewater per day, with a maximum capacity of 5 million gallons during peak flow. The plant site encompasses 36 acres and includes 22 pump stations and 70 miles of sanitary sewer mains. Northern Moraine WRD's treatment plant has undergone expansions and renovations to ensure compliance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) requirements. The District is committed to protecting public health and preserving the environment through responsible wastewater management. The District offices are located in Island Lake, Illinois.
