NOAO

NOAO is a research center based in Tucson, Arizona. The company employs 69 people and generates $500 million in annual revenue. NOAO provides public access to cutting-edge astronomical research capabilities through peer-review. This access is granted to qualified researchers who can utilize telescopes operated by NOAO, as well as other telescopes within the OIR System. These telescopes range in size from 1-meter to 10-meter apertures, with NOAO actively participating in the development of even larger telescopes, including those with 20-meter and larger apertures, and a unique 8-meter telescope designed to capture a 10-year movie of the Southern sky. In addition to providing access to existing telescopes, NOAO is dedicated to developing the next generation of telescopes, instruments, and software tools. These advancements aim to facilitate exploration and investigation across the observable universe, from planets orbiting other stars to the most distant galaxies. NOAO also has a nationally recognized Education and Public Outreach program with the goal of inspiring young people to pursue careers in science and research-based technology, and to engage with groups historically underrepresented in the physics and astronomy fields.
