Who is Niagara Falls Bridge Commission
The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission is a unique bi-national body located in Niagara Falls, New York. Comprised of eight commissioners, the NFBC is equally represented by Canada and the United States. Established in 1938, the Commission was initially created to finance, construct, and operate the Rainbow Bridge. It is a relatively small organization with 58 employees. The NFBC's primary function is the operation and maintenance of three international bridges: the Rainbow Bridge, the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge, and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. In addition to bridge management, the Commission builds and maintains facilities for Customs and Immigration functions on both sides of the border. The NFBC is financially self-sufficient, primarily through user fees (tolls) and revenue generated from private-sector tenant leases. The organization is also authorized to conduct international commercial financial transactions and issue tax-exempt bonds in the United States.
