New York State Inspector General

The New York State Inspector General is a government agency based in Albany, New York. Employing 54 people, the agency oversees the activities of executive branch agencies, departments, divisions, officers, boards, and most public authorities and public benefit corporations within the United States. The agency investigates complaints related to corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse within these entities. They also review policies and procedures to prevent such misconduct. In addition to these primary functions, the agency encompasses two distinct offices: the Office of the Welfare Inspector General (OWIG) and the Office of the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General (WCFIG). OWIG focuses on maintaining the integrity of New York State's public assistance programs and investigating fraud, abuse, or illegal acts within these programs. WCFIG investigates violations of workers' compensation laws, rules, and regulations.
