New Mexico Supreme Court

The New Mexico Supreme Court is a state government entity located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Comprised of five Justices, it is the highest court in the state and oversees all lower courts and attorneys practicing in New Mexico. The Supreme Court has mandatory appellate jurisdiction over various cases, including criminal matters with life sentences or death penalties, appeals from the Public Regulation Commission, habeas corpus appeals, challenges to public official nominations and removals, and others. Discretionary jurisdiction includes denials of habeas corpus petitions, certiorari petitions from the Court of Appeals, extraordinary writ matters, and certified questions from the Court of Appeals or federal courts.
