New Jersey Superior Court Appellate Division

The New Jersey Superior Court Appellate Division is a judicial institution based in Trenton, New Jersey. The court employs 87 people and is responsible for serving as New Jersey's intermediate Appellate Court. The Appellate Division hears appeals from decisions made by trial courts, the Tax Court, and State administrative agencies. Each year, they handle approximately 6,500 appeals and 8,500 motions. Judges are selected from parts consisting of four judges and sit in two and three judge panels. The court reviews final judgments from the Law Division and Chancery Division of the Superior Court, the Tax Court, and final decisions from State administrative agencies. The Appellate Division considers timely taken appeals as a matter of right from the previously mentioned courts and agencies. Litigants requiring review of interlocutory or interim orders from a trial court or agency must seek leave from the Court.
