Music in the Mountains

Music in the Mountains is a non-profit organization based in Nevada City, California. Employing a team of four, the organization generates $2.5 million in annual revenue. Founded in 1978 by Paul Perry and Terry Brown, Music in the Mountains focuses on bringing classical music to life through performances and youth education programs. The organization is best known for its SummerFest, a signature program that features a variety of classical music performances. Music in the Mountains also offers education programs including a Young Musicians Competition, programs in local schools, and a program for young composers. These programs aim to inspire and engage community members of all ages in the world of classical music. Since 2001, Music in the Mountains calls the Amaral Family Festival Center at the Nevada County Fair Grounds its home, though performances also take place at other venues in the area. The organization is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and boasts a volunteer chorus known as the MIM Chorus and a volunteer support group called the MIM Alliance.
