Michigan State University International Relations Organization, better known as IRO, is a large undergraduate student organization based in East Lansing, Michigan. With 5 to 9 employees, IRO has grown into a prominent competitive collegiate Model United Nations organization. IRO is dedicated to promoting global understanding and awareness through participation in Model United Nations conferences across North America. Members engage in debate and discussion on a wide range of international issues, fostering critical thinking and diplomacy skills. IRO’s competitive success has been recognized at prestigious conferences in cities like Boston, New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Montreal, and Chicago, placing them among the nation’s elite Model UN programs. Founded in 1979, IRO has a rich history of success, consistently winning awards and establishing itself as one of the largest and most competitive Model UN groups in the country. IRO's impact extends beyond its own membership, inspiring the creation of MSUMUN, a Model UN conference for high school students, in 2001.
