McGovern Institute for Brain Research

The McGovern Institute for Brain Research is a research institute located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to advancing the understanding of the brain and developing treatments for neurological disorders. The McGovern Institute focuses on fundamental brain research, exploring how the brain learns, remembers, and processes information. Their scientists investigate the neurological basis of disease and seek novel therapies. They also apply their knowledge of the brain to improve artificial neural networks. The institute was founded in 2000 by Lore Harp McGovern and Patrick J. McGovern. It is led by Director Robert Desimone, a renowned neuroscientist and former head of intramural research at the National Institute of Mental Health. Today, the McGovern Institute boasts a distinguished team of over 20 investigators, including a Nobel laureate and seven members of the National Academy of Sciences.
