MacDowell

MacDowell is a non-profit organization located in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Founded over a century ago, MacDowell provides artists with the resources they need to pursue creative endeavors. MacDowell offers residencies to a wide range of artists, including architects, composers, filmmakers, interdisciplinary artists, theatre artists, visual artists, and writers. Their mission is to create a supportive community where artists can focus on their craft. Since its inception, MacDowell has hosted nearly 9,000 artists from both the United States and internationally. Over the years, MacDowell has supported numerous celebrated artists, who have achieved recognition through awards such as Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships, Rome Prizes, MacArthur Fellowships, Academy Awards, Tonys, Grammys, and more. Notable alumni include Ayad Akhtar, James Baldwin, Michael Chabon, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Louise Erdrich, Osvaldo Golijov, Cathy Park Hong, Glenn Ligon, Dee Rees, Vijay Seshadri, Ann Patchett, Colson Whitehead, and Julia Wolfe.
