Los Angeles Unified School District is a public school district headquartered in Los Angeles, California. As the second largest school district in the United States, LAUSD enrolls over 640,000 students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The district operates over 900 schools and 187 public charter schools, serving a vast area spanning 720 square miles. LAUSD provides education to students within the city of Los Angeles and 31 surrounding municipalities.
