Kansas Forest Service

The Kansas Forest Service is a state agency located in Manhattan, Kansas. Established in 1887, it is the nation's fifth oldest state forestry agency. The agency employs 14 people and generates $5 million in annual revenue. The Kansas Forest Service serves a variety of clients, including rural landowners, communities, rural fire districts, forest and arboriculture industries, and citizens of Kansas. They offer a range of programs such as Conservation Tree and Shrub Planting, Fire Management, Community Forestry, Rural Forestry, Marketing and Utilization, and Forest Health. The agency operates a state office and several district offices across Kansas. The state office houses the state forester, program coordinators, statewide specialists, and support staff. Notably, they have a Rural Fire Program Shop, established in 1970, which provides federal excess property loans to rural fire departments.
