GW Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE) is a small organization based in the United States, with a team of three employees. Established in 2010, it serves as the central hub for entrepreneurship at the George Washington University. The OIE focuses on fostering innovation, venture creation, and intrapreneurship within the GW community and the broader Mid-Atlantic startup ecosystem. The OIE offers a range of programming to support entrepreneurs at all stages. They work with students, faculty, and alumni, providing resources and guidance to help them develop and launch their business ideas. The organization also hosts the New Venture Competition, a business plan competition that has been running since 2009. A key differentiator for the OIE is its partnership with the I-Corps Hub, a $15 million initiative aimed at advancing innovation in the Mid-Atlantic region. This partnership allows the OIE to connect researchers with entrepreneurs and accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies. To date, the OIE has supported over 1,500 teams, which have resulted in the creation of over 350 businesses that have generated $1.04 billion in follow-on funding.
