Great Lakes Water Authority

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is a regional water and sewer authority based in Detroit, Michigan. It employs 207 people and generates around $500 million in annual revenue. The GLWA serves nearly 40 percent of the water customers in Michigan. GLWA provides wholesale water and wastewater services to 126 municipalities across seven Southeastern Michigan counties. This reaches approximately 3.9 million customers. The authority operates, manages, and oversees a vast network of regional water and sewer infrastructure, including treatment plants, transmission mains, and sewage interceptors. This responsibility was assumed through a 40-year lease agreement with the City of Detroit.
