Global Alliance of Territorial Communities

The Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC) is a political platform based in the United States formed by indigenous peoples and local communities. GATC is a small organization with three employees and generates an estimated $2.5 million in annual revenue. GATC's mission is to defend Mother Earth for the benefit of present and future generations. The alliance represents 35 million people living in forest territories across 24 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Their work focuses on defending over 958 million hectares of land. GATC guarantees its legitimacy and representativeness through democratic processes that span from the community level to a plurinational level. The alliance is composed of five key organizations: the Indonesian Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (AMAN), the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB), the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), the Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), and the Network of Indigenous and Local Populations for the Sustainable Management of Central African Forest Ecosystems (REPALEAC).
