Emmaus House

Emmaus House is a non-profit organization located in Atlanta, Georgia. The organization has 32 employees and generates approximately $2.5 million in annual revenue. Emmaus House provides a range of programs and services to the residents of Peoplestown, focusing on assistance, education and enrichment, fellowship and communion, and service learning. These services are designed to address the significant prevalence of poverty in the neighborhood and benefit people of all ages. Founded in 1967, Emmaus House was initially established by Father Austin Ford, an Episcopal Priest and civil rights advocate, along with two nuns and a seminary student. Inspired by the settlement houses of the 1920s, they started with an after-school program, transportation services for families of inmates, chapel services, hot meals, and a poverty rights office.
