Eglin Air Force Base is a major military installation located in Eglin AFB, Florida. As the second largest test & training complex within the Department of Defense, it employs approximately 110 personnel and generates $1 billion in annual revenue. The 96th Test Wing, headquartered at Eglin Air Force Base, plays a crucial role as the test & evaluation center for a wide range of Air Force systems. These systems encompass air-delivered weapons, navigation & guidance, Command & Control, and Air Force Special Operations Command technologies. The wing conducts developmental test & evaluation throughout the entire system life cycle, serving a diverse clientele including Air Force Systems Program Offices, the Air Force Research Laboratory, logistics & product centers, major commands, other branches of the Department of Defense, U.S. government agencies (such as the Department of Transportation and NASA), foreign military sales entities, and private industry. Beyond its core testing mission, Eglin Air Force Base provides extensive base operating support functions. These encompass material resources, mobility requirements, and a comprehensive suite of traditional military services, including civil engineering, personnel, logistics, communications, computer systems, medical care, and security. The base also boasts the Air Force's third largest hospital, serving over 92,000 beneficiaries and operating the Air Force's Invisible Wounds Center. Additionally, it houses the Air Force's largest transportation function within the continental United States, a combat-coded control & reporting center, and holds a DoD level five software engineering status.
