Des Moines Symphony and Academy

The Des Moines Symphony is a not-for-profit orchestra based in Des Moines, Iowa. Founded in 1937, the organization employs 45 people and operates on an annual budget of $4.2 million. The Des Moines Symphony offers a variety of musical experiences for the community, including Masterworks concerts, Pops series, education programs, and special events. The Des Moines Symphony Academy, located in downtown Des Moines, provides music education opportunities for individuals of all ages. Through the Academy, the Symphony supports youth orchestras, a Youth Wind Ensemble, chamber music, music theory classes, and private lessons, serving over 600 students weekly. The Symphony performs at the acoustically acclaimed Des Moines Civic Center and hosts its annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert at the Iowa State Capitol, attracting an audience of over 100,000.
