The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is a 145-bed medical center located in Charleston, South Carolina. It is a primary, secondary, and tertiary care facility serving veterans in southeastern South Carolina and Chatham County, Georgia. Employing approximately 120 individuals, the medical center generates over $1 billion in annual revenue. The medical center provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient care, as well as primary and specialized outpatient services. It supports Vet Centers in North Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, and operates outpatient clinics in Savannah, Georgia, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The facility currently operates 98 beds and a 20-bed nursing home. The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is closely affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina, supporting 84 resident full-time equivalents (FTEs) in medical and dental specialties. Additionally, the medical center welcomes students from nursing, pharmacy, social work, and allied health disciplines. It serves as a partnership site for the VA Nursing Academy in collaboration with the MUSC School of Nursing. The Research Service boasts over 100 research investigators actively involved in over 300 research projects focusing on health problems prevalent in the veteran patient population.
