DC Youth Orchestra Program

The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. It employs 26 people and generates over $10,000 in annual revenue. DCYOP is the region's leading ensemble-based music education program, providing group lessons and ensemble training on all orchestral instruments to 700 students aged 4 ½ to 18. Their commitment to serving under-represented communities is demonstrated through expanded tuition assistance and tuition-free, on-site satellite programs at DC Title I schools. Founded in 1960, DCYOP boasts a rich history, having been the first youth orchestra to perform at the Kennedy Center. The organization has toured 22 countries, performed for U.S. presidents and diplomats, and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Aaron Copland, Lorin Maazel, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gustavo Dudamel, Joshua Bell, and Yo-Yo Ma. DCYOP's dedication to fostering musical talent has earned them prestigious awards, including the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award and the District of Columbia Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education.
