Cooperative Institute for Severe and High Impact Weather Research Operations (CIWRO) is a research center located in Norman, Oklahoma. Established in 2021, CIWRO employs over 215 researchers, support personnel, and students. CIWRO's mission is to advance the understanding of weather phenomena and translate that knowledge into practical applications for improved forecasting. They collaborate with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to achieve this goal, building upon decades of cooperative programs between the two organizations. As the largest research center at the University of Oklahoma, CIWRO leverages the combined scientific and technical resources of OU and NOAA.
