CompuMAINE Lab

CompuMAINE Lab is a small research laboratory located at the University of Maine flagship campus in Orono, Maine. Founded by Dr. Andre Khalil, the lab employs three individuals and generates over $10,000 in annual revenue. CompuMAINE Lab specializes in image and signal processing, analysis, and modeling, applying a range of disciplines including mathematics, physics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, and computational engineering. Their research focuses on developing and implementing novel signal processing and image analysis techniques and computational modeling to study diverse applications. A core area of research for CompuMAINE Lab is radiomics, a field that uses data-characterization algorithms to extract quantitative features from medical images. This research has applications across various fields such as medicine (cancer, neuroscience, muscular dystrophy), biophysics (neuro-development, cell nucleus architecture), biomedical engineering (artificial bone implants, protein modeling, astrobiology), physics, geophysics, and astrophysics (climate change, surface science, solar physics, interstellar medium, cosmology), and pure mathematics (fractal structures in Pascal’s Triangle).
