Community Crisis Center

The Gretchen S. Vapnar Community Crisis Center is a non-profit organization based in Elgin, Illinois. Founded in 1975, the organization employs 57 people and generates an annual revenue of $50 million. The Community Crisis Center provides a wide range of services to individuals and families experiencing crisis situations, particularly those related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or economic hardship. These services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter for up to 40 women and children, individual and group counseling, advocacy support for medical, legal, and welfare matters, financial assistance, an emergency food pantry, a batterers' intervention program, a transitional living program, a specialized children's program, and community education initiatives. The organization is recognized as one of the oldest domestic violence shelters in Illinois and played a key role in establishing both the Illinois and National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Community Crisis Center's mission is to offer Safety, Hope, Advocacy, Respite, and Education to those affected by crisis and violence in the Fox Valley Region and throughout Illinois.
