Colorado Office of the State Auditor

The Colorado Office of the State Auditor is an independent, nonpartisan agency located in Denver, Colorado. As part of the Legislative Branch, the agency employs approximately 49 individuals. The Colorado Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is dedicated to promoting accountability and transparency in Colorado state government. They provide independent, objective audits and evaluations to ensure government officials and agencies are using public resources properly and programs are achieving their desired outcomes. These services encompass financial, performance, and IT audits of state departments, agencies, programs, political subdivisions, and other relevant entities. Additionally, the OSA evaluates all state tax expenditures on a 5-year cycle, monitors local governments for compliance with the Local Government Audit Law, and manages a statewide fraud reporting hotline. The OSA is organized into five divisions: Financial Audits, Performance Audits, IT Audits, Tax Expenditure Evaluations, and Local Government Audits. These divisions work collaboratively to ensure comprehensive coverage of state government operations and fiscal responsibility.
