Cocheco Valley Humane Society

Cocheco Valley Humane Society is a nonprofit organization based in Dover, New Hampshire. As a 501(c)3, the organization is community-funded and dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of animals in Strafford County, New Hampshire, and Southern Maine. The organization has six employees. Cocheco Valley Humane Society provides shelter to over 1,500 animals annually, including those that are surrendered, lost, abused, neglected, or unwanted. In addition to shelter, they offer a range of services to thousands more animals each year. Their services extend to residents of New Hampshire and southern Maine, even those outside their primary service area. Founded in 1984, Cocheco Valley Humane Society operates in a historic 100-year-old piggery that was formerly part of the county work farm. Importantly, the organization does not receive funding from the State of New Hampshire or the federal government, relying entirely on community support.
