City Teaching Alliance is a training program based in Baltimore, Maryland, that focuses on developing highly effective educators for urban schools. With a team of 385 employees and generating $23 million in revenue, the organization aims to empower every child through quality learning experiences. The City Teaching Alliance program prepares aspiring teachers to become career educators committed to equity and inclusivity. Participants, in partnership with American University, earn a Master's of Arts in Teaching through a hands-on, practical curriculum specifically designed for the challenges and opportunities of urban classrooms. The program emphasizes literacy and math skills, and includes coursework and dual certification in special education and a content area, ensuring teachers can address the diverse needs of all students. What sets City Teaching Alliance apart is its highly-selective, rigorous three-year intensive coaching program. The program's first year, known as the residency year, involves working alongside a host teacher in a classroom setting, gaining over 1,500 hours of real-world experience. Participants engage in clinical practice during the day while simultaneously pursuing coursework in the Master's program at night. In year two, residents transition to becoming fellows, taking on their own classrooms while continuing coursework and receiving ongoing coaching support.
