Citizens Academy A Breakthrough Charter School

Citizens Academy of Cleveland is a top-performing urban elementary school serving students in grades K-5 in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1999, the school is committed to academic excellence and responsible citizenship. It currently enrolls nearly 400 students and plans to expand with the addition of a preschool and middle school in the coming years. Citizens Academy provides a quality education to a diverse student body. Ninety-seven percent of the student population is African-American, and 80% are economically disadvantaged. The school aims to prepare its students for future success through a rigorous and engaging curriculum. Citizens Academy is part of Breakthrough Charter Schools (BCS), a non-profit charter management organization that supports four high-performing urban public charter schools in Cleveland. BCS provides operational support and resources to each school while allowing them to maintain their unique educational models.
