Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center

Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center (CVAHEC) is a non-profit organization based in Brattleboro, Vermont. With a team of 5 to 9 employees, CVAHEC plays a vital role in promoting healthcare workforce development within the region. Focusing on Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties, they aim to ensure a future with accessible and high-quality healthcare. CVAHEC's mission centers around improving access to quality healthcare by collaborating with community and academic partners to support healthcare professionals. Their efforts include recruitment, retention, and continuing education initiatives. They actively engage middle and high school students, encouraging them to explore over 300 healthcare careers through various programs. These include career fairs, classroom presentations, student clubs, and the Focus on Health Careers Conference at Vermont Technical College. Additionally, they offer MedQuest and CollegeQuest programs to further guide students in their healthcare journey. As a member of the Vermont Statewide AHEC Program Network, CVAHEC benefits from a strong community-university partnership with the University of Vermont College of Medicine. This network also includes Southern Vermont AHEC and Northeastern Vermont AHEC, working collectively to address healthcare workforce needs across the state. The Vermont AHEC Program, established in 1996 by the University of Vermont College of Medicine, receives ongoing support from various sources including the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Fletcher Allen Health Care, the State of Vermont, and Vermont's community hospitals.
