Center for Jewish Civilization

The Center for Jewish Civilization (CJC) is a teaching and research unit situated within the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, District of Columbia. The Center is comprised of a team of six employees. The CJC focuses on a wide range of subjects related to Jewish history, culture, and religion. Their areas of expertise include American-Middle Eastern foreign policy in relation to Israel, Holocaust and genocide studies, Jewish-Catholic relations, Jewish literature, and Jewish cultural expression. They examine Judaism's role as both a religion and a civilization within the context of its interactions with other cultures and political systems. The CJC is notable for its unique placement within a school of international relations. This positioning allows its scholars and practitioners to explore the intersection of religion and public affairs, particularly focusing on the geopolitical significance of Israel and Jewish communities worldwide. The CJC offers an undergraduate certificate in Jewish Civilization through the School of Foreign Service and a minor in the College of Arts and Sciences.
