California State Assembly

The California State Assembly is a legislative body located in Sacramento, California. It is the lower house of the California State Legislature and consists of 80 members. The Assembly employs 1,116 people and has an annual revenue of $1 billion. The California State Assembly is responsible for creating and passing legislation that impacts the state of California. Each member represents approximately 465,000 people, making it the legislature with the largest population per representative ratio of any state lower house in the United States. Members of the Assembly serve staggered terms. Those elected prior to 2012 are limited to three two-year terms, while those elected in or after 2012 can serve up to 12 years in a combination of state senate and assembly terms.
