California Department of Aging

The California Department of Aging (CDA) is a state government agency headquartered in Sacramento, California. The department employs 103 individuals and generates an annual revenue of $100 million. The CDA administers a variety of programs designed to support older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents of long-term care facilities throughout the state. These programs, funded by the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act, and the Medi-Cal program, are delivered through a network of 33 Area Agencies on Aging. These agencies provide a wide array of services, including meals, employment assistance, supportive services to promote independent living, and resources for family caregivers. The CDA also contracts with 38 agencies to operate the Multipurpose Senior Services Program through the Medi-Cal home and community-based waiver for the elderly and certifies approximately 242 Adult Day Health Care Centers for participation in the Medi-Cal Community Based Adult Services (CBAS) Program. These efforts focus on improving transportation, housing, and accessibility; enhancing emergency preparedness and response; promoting wellness and nutrition; preventing falls and injuries; improving services for individuals with dementia; reducing fraud and abuse; and addressing many other critical issues affecting older adults and their families.
