Boone County Fire Protection District is a volunteer fire department located in Columbia, Missouri. It is the largest volunteer fire department in the state, employing 133 people and generating $8.7 million in annual revenue. The Boone County Fire Protection District operates 14 fire stations across its 500 square mile service area and utilizes over 50 pieces of fire apparatus. In addition to its fire suppression services, the district sponsors Missouri Task Force 1 (MO-TF1), an Urban Search and Rescue Task Force that serves as a state resource under SEMA. MO-TF1 is a federally recognized team, designated by FEMA in 1997 as one of 28 National teams eligible for deployment to national disasters. Missouri Task Force 1 has a vast equipment cache and provides personnel, management, and training resources. The team has a history of responding to major national disasters, including the September 11th attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the Joplin, Missouri tornado in 2011.
