Banshee UAV Research Project

Banshee UAV Research Project is a team of engineering students based in Pomona, California. The team is comprised of approximately 14 aerospace, electrical & computer, and mechanical engineering students. They are dedicated to developing a cutting-edge, ultra-high endurance Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) drone. Their project, known as Battery As iNtegrated Structure High-Endurance Experimental UAV (BANSHEE UAV), focuses on creating a drone capable of prolonged surveillance and payload delivery. This is achieved through a combination of innovative technologies. The team aims to utilize solar power to harness energy from the environment, along with induction wireless charging via power lines and ground charging stations. A key differentiator for the BANSHEE UAV is its innovative approach to structural design. The team seeks to replace traditional, weight-adding structural components with integrated power generation and storage devices. For example, they are exploring the use of wing spars that also function as batteries, reducing overall weight and increasing efficiency.
