Association for Women in Computing at VT

The Association for Women in Computing at VT is a non-profit organization based in Blacksburg, Virginia. Run entirely by students, the association is dedicated to supporting and encouraging women in technology-related fields. AWC's mission is to promote recruitment and retention of women in computer science and other technology-oriented careers. They achieve this through a variety of activities, including monthly meetings featuring discussions on career development, industry trends, and salary negotiation. The organization also hosts events open to the community, like Women in Computing Day, which introduces middle school girls to computing and technology, and HackViolet, a spring semester hackathon. AWC collaborates with the Department of Computer Science, the College of Engineering, and various IT companies to achieve its goals.
