American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association (AIANTA) is a non-profit organization based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a staff of 10 employees. Founded in 1998, AIANTA was established by tribes for tribes to address inequities in the tourism system and serve as a united voice for the $14 billion Native hospitality sector. AIANTA is dedicated to providing technical assistance, training, research, and publications to American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities involved in tourism and hospitality. They facilitate conversations with Native communities, federal agencies, non-profit associations, and elected officials on the economic and cultural importance of a thriving hospitality industry. Furthermore, AIANTA highlights the significance of visiting authentic Native destinations, encompassing cultural, heritage, historic, and artistic sites, and aims to generate awareness, interest, and demand for these destinations among domestic and international travelers, travel trade, and media outlets. AIANTA distinguishes itself through its governance by an all-Native board of directors, ensuring a direct and authentic representation of Native voices and perspectives within the tourism sector.
