American Historical Association

The American Historical Association is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, District of Columbia. Founded in 1884 and incorporated by Congress in 1889, the AHA is the largest organization of professional historians globally, representing nearly 12,000 members. The AHA supports historians across diverse fields, backgrounds, and career stages. Its membership encompasses K-12 teachers, independent scholars, academics, graduate and undergraduate students, and professionals in museums, historical organizations, libraries, archives, government, and business.
