American Friends of Nishmat

American Friends of Nishmat is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting advanced Torah learning for women and the training of Yoatzot Halacha (Women Advisors in Jewish Law). With a staff of three, AFN plays a vital role in fostering these endeavors through its partnership with NISHMAT, The Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study, located in Jerusalem. AFN offers a range of programs and initiatives. They provide ongoing financial and moral support to NISHMAT, enabling it to continue its vital work. AFN also organizes scholar-in-residence programs, bringing NISHMAT scholars to American Jewish communities and synagogues. These programs offer opportunities to engage with renowned figures like Rabbanit Chana Henkin, Nishmat Founder and Dean, Yoetzet Halacha Atara Eis, and Yoetzet Halacha Rachelle Sprecher Fraenkel, among others. AFN's focus extends to supporting NISHMAT's various educational programs. These include the Israeli Midrasha and Ma’ayan, which cater to veterans of Israel's National Service and IDF, and the highly sought-after Shana Ba’Aretz Post-High School Program. Through these initiatives, NISHMAT empowers a diverse group of women to pursue Torah scholarship, intellectual exploration, and personal growth. Additionally, AFN supports the Miriam Glaubach Center in the U.S. and the Keren Ariel Program in Israel, which have certified over 120 Yoatzot Halacha.
