American Bar Association Commission on Immigration

The American Bar Association Commission on Immigration is a commission headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia. Employing 90 individuals, the organization focuses its efforts on legal developments and addressing the needs of immigrants and newcomers. The Commission works to coordinate and strengthen the American Bar Association's response to immigration-related challenges. They are particularly concerned with safeguarding due process, reducing reliance on detention, and ensuring access to legal information and counsel for individuals navigating immigration proceedings, especially unaccompanied immigrant children. The ABA Board of Governors designated immigration as a legislative priority in 1992, leading to the establishment of the 13-member Commission on Immigration in 2002 and a 10-member Advisory Committee in 2005.
