1st Battalion 3rd Marines

1st Battalion 3rd Marines is a military unit based out of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. It is a battalion in the United States Marine Corps and consists of approximately 900 Marines and Sailors. Nicknamed the "Lava Dogs," 1st Battalion 3rd Marines falls under the 3rd Marine Regiment and the 3rd Marine Division. The battalion's primary mission is to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, and to repel the enemy's assault by fire and close-combat. 1st Battalion 3rd Marines is supported by Marine aviation and force service support units.
