Mashable study: Here’s What People Look at on Facebook Brand Pages

2011-12-14: In our new study for Mashable, we at EyeTrackShop took a look at how people look at brand pages on Facebook. With webcam eyetracking, we analyzed the brand pages for the big brands Coca-Cola, Skittles, Victoria’s Secret, Starbucks, Converse, PlayStation, Pringles and Red Bull.

Some key learnings:

  • Content matters: All brand pages’ walls attracts almost all respondents gaze. The walls also attracts the viewer’s attention for the longest time, with an average of 4 seconds.
  • The small profile pictures gets attention: 85 % look at the smaller pictures right above the wall.
  • 73 % look at the larger picture of the brand’s product. You get more attention with a human face in the picture.
  • Only 58 % pays attention to the “likes” column to the left on the brand page.
